Back to Books

Autumn has arrived! And even though we here at Albertine have long been out of school, the season makes us think of comfy cardigans, scarves, boots, and books…lots of books.  So along with the help of our favorite neighborhood bookstore, Three Lives & Company, we’ve compiled a list of books to feed that back-to-school feeling.

Albertine’s picks:
STRAIGHT MAN by Richard Russo
BLUE ANGEL by Francine Prose
Epictetus’ THE ART OF LIVING

Three Lives & Company picks:
THE ANTHOLOGIST by Nicholson Baker
LIAM’S GOING by Michael Joyce
LITTLE BEE by Chris Cleave

THREE LIVES is an anachronism.  It is the shop around the corner.  A touchstone in a neighborhood.  A place with a human face and a cast of characters.  84 Charing Cross Road colored by the time and place.  A haven for people who read.
Visit Three Lives & Company at 154 West 10 St. in NYC

Albertine Muse: Brooke K. Travis

Ms. Travis is steely elegance and winning charm combined with impeccable taste. We love to see what she’ll pick up at the shop and how she’ll end up putting things together.

Brooke contemplates a Miranda Bennett one shoulder gown for fashion week.
She’s wrapped Delphine’s Brooke skirt over the dress for a delightful and unexpected combination.

Brooke thought that the bracelet by Orly Genger was well matched for her outfit with a creme grey blazer.

Cappucino and Friends

Notice Brooke’s gorgeous turquoise cuff by Jody Candrian from Albertine.
She told us that she’s worn it tons of times and we love to hear that.

Caffe Dante

Caffe Dante has been in the West Village at 81 Macdougal since 1915, epitomizing old school.  True-hearted New Yorkers swear that they make the finest cappuccino around.  We love the cheesecake but sitting outside with a cappuccino is the nicest.

The Smile

Amy is our go-to gal at Albertine General.  She keeps everything running smoothly and has extensive knowledge of antique jewelry.

Amy’s dress and belt are by Gary Graham.
It looks like she’s wearing three belts but it’s really one!

The necklace is by Plume.
We love the mix of brass and lucite–very versatile,  goes great with everything.

Rings by Cave Canem.
Exquisite stackable Promise Rings, available in other stones like emerald, sapphire, and rubies.  The second ring is a 60′s reproduction in 14kt gold. It’s a great statement piece and is also available in silver.

The clutch is by Moyna

Cool Amy

Amy’s wearing a dress by Bodkin.  Notice her cool black comfy Rachel Comey boots.  We swear by their comfort.
